Filters and Connection Files for Databases at UC Davis (Macintosh)
- In the instructions below Direct Export refers to the direct transmission of records from a database to the EndNote library. Filter Import refers to a two-step process involving the saving of records to the computer desktop and choosing a filter in EndNote to import the records.

Agricola (SP)
Firefox (Direct Export)
- Add records to folder.
- Click disk icon to save.
- Select radio button for Export to ProCite, EndNote, and Reference Manager and click OK.
- Follow automatic prompts to open EndNote program and library as necessary and transfer records.
Safari (Filter Import)
- Add records to folder.
- Click disk icon to save.
- Select radio buttons for marked records and to Export to ProCite, EndNote, and Reference Manager. Records file will download to computer.
- Click to select file, then Control-Click.
- Follow automatic prompts to open EndNote program and library and choose Agricola (SP) filter and transfer records.

Download this file onto your desktop by Control+clicking it and choosing Download Link to Disk (in Internet Explorer), Save Link Target As (in Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla) or Download Linked File (in Safari). - In the database: Mark references by placing a check mark in the box directly to the left of a citation.

Fish and Fisheries Worldwide (NISC)
The Direct Export feature in Fish and Fisheries Worldwide does not work with Macs. You must use a filter. Download this filter onto your desktop by Control+clicking it and choosing Control+clicking it and choosing Download Link to Disk (in Internet Explorer), Save Link Target As (in Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla) or Download Linked File (in Safari): http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/instruc/research/endnote/files/fish-fisheries.sea
- Drag the filter to the Filters folder of your EndNote folder.
- Check boxes of citations you wish to download into an EndNote library you have created.
- Under Select Display Format at the top of the page, choose Marked Full Records.
- Click Export.
- In the next window, click EndNote.
- A tagged display will result; choose Save As and save the search result as a text file somewhere on your hard drive.
- Open EndNote to the library you want to download your citations into. Go to the File menu and choose Import.
- Under File Name..., click on the Choose File... button and navigate on your hand drive to where your search result is saved.
- Under Import Options, click on the button, select Other Filters... and navigate to the Filters folder of your EndNote folder, choosing Fish & Fisheries Worldwide. Click Import.
Food Science and Technology Abstracts (SP)

- Mark Records.
- Click floppy disk icon.
- Select radio buttons for marked records and to Export to ProCite, EndNote or Reference Manager, then click OK.
- Follow automatic prompts, selecting EndNote program and library as necessary to transfer records.

Harvest: UC Davis Library Catalog (University of California, Davis)
If you want call numbers to download into your EndNote library with citations, first download this current Harvest filter by control-clicking the link and choosing Save Target As ... (in Internet Explorer) or Save Link Target As ... (in Netscape, Mozilla or Firefox): http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/instruc/research/endnote/files/harvest-ucdavis.enf and then dragging it to the Filters folder of your EndNote program. Make sure you delete any U_of_California-Davis.enf or harvest-ucdavis.enf that is already there. After doing that, go to Harvest UC Davis Catalog under Research Tools.
- DIRECT DOWNLOAD OF HARVEST RECORDS INTO ENDNOTE DOES NOT WORK WITH INTERNET EXPLORER OR ANY OF THE NETSCAPE SUITE OF WEB BROWSERS (FIREFOX, MOZILLA OR SEAMONKEY). YOU MUST USE SAFARI.
- Do your search in Harvest; either select individual citatations for download by checking the boxes to the left or select Select All above Title.
- Once you have selected desired citations, click Add to My E-Shelf.
- Click My E-Shelf on the upper right of the window.
- Click Select All above Title.
- Click Save/Mail.
- In the next window, under Records:, click the All (BASKET) radio button.
- Under Record format, go to Select Predefined Format: and click on the pulldown menu, selecting EndNote/RIS Tagged Output Format.
- Under Encoding:, click the radio button ISO 8859-1.
- Scroll down and click Go.
- The Downloads window will open, showing progress of the download. Your search results will be saved wherever you have configured Safari to put downloads. If you are unsure of where that is, check under Preferences, then Save Downloaded Files to.
- Open EndNote, open the library you want your Harvest citations to go into, go to File and then Import.
- In the new window that opens, under Import File Name choose the file you just downloaded.
- Under Import Options: click on the pulldown menu and scroll to RefMan RIS.enf.
- Under Text Translation: choose Unicode (UTF-8).
- Click Import.
- If you want UCD call numbers in your citations, bear in mind that call numbers will download into the Notes field, not the Call Number field. You must cut and paste call numbers into that field.
INSPEC (Ovid)

Download filter by Control+clicking it and choosing Download Link to Disk (in Internet Explorer), Save Link Target As (in Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla) or Download Linked File (in Safari), and dragging filter to the Filters folder of your EndNote program. Readers Guide Retrospective (WilsonWeb)
Download this file onto your desktop by Control+clicking it and choosing Download Link to Disk (in Internet Explorer), Save Link Target As (in Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla) or Download Linked File (in Safari). After downloading and expanding the filter, drag it to the Filters folder of your EndNote program: http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/instruc/research/endnote/files/readers-guide-retrospective.sea See Using Connection Files and Filters in EndNote for further instructions.
- In the database: Mark references by placing a check mark in the box directly to the left of a citation.
- Click on the Print Email Save button in the left margin.
- Select Save Options.
- Select Export to Bibliographic Software.
- Choose Save As and save search result somewhere on your hard drive.
- Open EndNote to the library you want to download search result to. Open File and then Import.
- Under Choose File... navigate on your hard drive to where you have saved search result.
- Under Import Options choose Other Filters... and navigate alphabetically to RGR.
- Click on Import.
RILM [NISC]
The Direct Export feature in RILM does not work with Macs. You must use a filter. Download this filter onto your desktop by Control+clicking it and choosing Download Link to Disk (in Internet Explorer), Save Link Target As (in Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla) or Download Linked File (in Safari): http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/instruc/research/endnote/files/rilm.sea
- Install this filter in the Filters folder of your EndNote folder.
- Check boxes of citations you wish to download in an EndNote library you have created.
- Under Select Display Format at the top of the page, choose Marked Full Records.
- Click Export.
- In the next window, click EndNote.
- A tagged display will result; choose Save As and save the search result as a Text file somewhere on your hard drive.
- Open EndNote to the library you want to download your citations into. Go to the File menu and choose Import.
- Under File Name, click on the Choose File button and navigate on your hand drive to where your search result is saved.
- Under Import Options, click on the button, select Other Filters and navigate to the Filters folder of your EndNote folder, choosing RILM (NISC).
Science Citation Index (ISI)

SciFinder (Chem Abstracts)
In order to access SciFinder from your computer at home, you must download licensed client software, available only to UCD students, faculty and staff: http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/pse/resources/guides/scifinder.php
You must connect to the Internet using the Campus Modem Pool. You cannot use the proxy server or a private Internet service provider to connect to SciFinder from an off-campus computer.

Wildlife & Ecology Worldwide (NISC)
The Direct Export feature in Wildlife & Ecology Worldwide does not work with Macs. You must use a filter. Download this filter onto your desktop by Control+clicking it and choosing Download Link to Disk (in Internet Explorer), Save Link Target As (in Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla) or Download Linked File (in Safari): http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/instruc/research/endnote/files/wildlife.sea
- Install this filter in the Filters folder of your EndNote folder
- Check boxes of citations you wish to download in an EndNote library you have created.
- Under Select Display Format at the top of the page, choose Marked Full Records.
- Click Export.
- In the next window, click EndNote.
- A tagged display will result; choose Save As save the search result as a text file somewhere on your hard drive.
- Open EndNote to the library you want to download your citations into. Go to the File menu and choose Import.
- Under File Name, click on the Choose File button and navigate on your hand drive to where your search result is saved.
- Under Import Options, click on the button, select Other Filters and navigate to the Filters folder of your EndNote folder, choosing Wildlife & Ecology Worldwide.
Zoological Records (CSA)
